Mom Monday: Food Fiasco

Yes I know it's not Monday but I forgot to post this yesterday...

Toddlers are unusual creatures especially when it comes to food. If you can believe it my toddler used to be the BEST eater, he loved asparagus... Yes, a green vegetable, honestly he couldn't get enough.
Now things have definitely changed and I've learned a lot of important rules regarding toddler eating habits:

1. Ketchup might very well be a food group

2. Just because they like something one day don't assume it will be the same the next day

3. Snacks are essentials (on the same level as diapers as necessities go)

4. If the food on your plate is the exact same food on their plate just cut up into smaller pieces it is therefore inedible

5. (Sub rule of #4) in which case whatever is on your plate now belongs to them and has to be cut into smaller pieces...

6. Forks are weapons not eating utensils

7. No toddler shall ever leave a meal with a clean shirt

8. Vegetables most especially green ones cannot be swallowed by toddlers

9. (The exception to #8) if said vegetables are covered in cheese sauce to the point where they are unrecognizable which in turn defeats the purpose of eating said vegetables in the first place they may be ingested.

10. Asking a toddler what they want to eat when their language consists of very few coherent words, "no" being very prominent, they cannot be trusted.
eg. Me: "Griffin would you like Ice Cream?" Griffin: "NO!"

I'm trying to be creative with our meals so that he can maintain some variety in his diet but some days meals look like this no matter what.
I was a picky eater as a child so maybe I'm to blame for this one...

If you have kids, how do you make sure they get all the food groups in?

  1. Hmm, as long as they get a taste of each food group at some point during the day I count it as a success! Ha ha.
