I volunteered for the 1st time at a race expo. I have done so many races and picked up so many race packages it was about time to volunteer and hand some of those packages out myself, so that's what I did! I had a great time with a friendly bunch of volunteers all morning at the Active Living Expo in Surrey!
I was assigned the job of getting the runners their bib numbers so that they could collect their packages. I loved it because I was able to greet a lot of the runners I have trained with and who I will be running with tomorrow! Thanks to everyone who stopped in to say hello :)
A special perk of being a volunteer this morning is that I was around when the medals arrived and were being unpacked so I got a sneak peek!
People at the expo were joking around asking if the race was going to be cancelled because of all the rain, I laughed it off and said "in Vancouver, not a chance!", and then I went outside to almost literally a monsoon.
So this it, I've got most of my things prepared and set out for the morning. It is just about time for me to call it a night so that I'm raring to go (well sort of...) for my 4:30AM alarm. I feel like I'm living in a dream, and that this is not all actually going to happen tomorrow. All of my previous races, my training this summer, and my (sometimes) outlandish goals have lead me to this, and finally here I am.
Here's to hoping it is a run and not a swim... that I will survive... and mostly that I have fun because I will never forget my 1st!
So exciting! Good luck today!!
