Here we go again!

I have yet to reveal my entire race schedule for 2014, stay tuned for that sometime next week... but I have officially announced that I will be running the BMO Vancouver Full Marathon on May 4, 2014.

After my 1st marathon I was so thrilled with the feeling of completing it that I wanted to sign up for another one the next day. Pretty soon after that, my post marathon high wore off and I was left with a pretty serious case of the post marathon blues. I think it was a combination of that and being burnt out from a year of so much racing.

It has taken some time but I am rested now and looking forward to another year of races. I feel ready to train for a big race, my 2nd full marathon. As of this Sunday I will officially be 'in training' again.

And yes, that means I have opted out of the Ultra I mentioned last week. It doesn't mean that I will never run an Ultra marathon, it just means: not right now. My thoughts about an ultra marathon would be aptly described by the FaceBook relationship status "it's complicated". I feel like it is the next step but I know I'm not ready yet, even if I want to be. I love the half marathon distance, I like the marathon distance, and the Ultra is a crazy unknown. So maybe next year, I will learn to love the marathon distance. Or at least learn a little bit more about myself while training for one.

What are you training for right now? Do you think January is a good time to start training? Do you make New Year's resolutions?

  1. Haha I feel the same way about doing an ultra! I have been riddled with injury for the last year and a half which left me 100% sidelined from running so there is no way I can do one any time soon (I am cleared to run again though! Yay!). But still, there is this lingering desire to run one eventually. It's complicated is a great description! Good luck training for your upcoming marathon!!!

    1. Thanks Crystal! Send an email to readbakerunrepeat@gmail.com and I'll send you my training plan. It is based off the Running Room 'to complete' marathon training plan. I'm hoping I'll do better than my last marathon by just sticking with my schedule more rigorously than before and well... not moving to a new house in the middle of all the training should help too :)

  3. I hear that! My training starts next weekend for marathon #2 also on May 4 but in Pittsburgh. Good luck to you, it will be nice to hear your updates since we're on a similar timeline.

  4. If you haven't looked at the Tynehead 8 hour (or 12 hour) maybe it is a good place to do your first ultra. Cheap, local and full of your friends you run with all the time :)

  5. I am currently training for my first marathon, Little Rock Marathon. I did my first distance past half marathon mileage yesterday. Not bad. I don't make resolutions. I set my goals and work towards them in increments (i.e. marathon with a number of half marathons leading up to it). Good luck with your training.
